Pittsburgh Beer Society

::about::

The idea for the Pittsburgh Beer Society was born in the fall of 2005 when our co-founder Shaun Gilmour began to throw a series of house parties called Fridays In Fall. Mostly it was just an excuse to throw a party, but eventually the idea of hosting beer tastings at each of the parties became the focus. There were beers from Bullfrog Brewery, Otto's Brewery, and some rare offerings from some special friends at a Colorado brewery at those parties.

With the fall of 2006 approaching, the idea of doing the another series of parties started to get thrown around again. Unfortunately, the Gilmour's were working on buying a house and needed to put the parties on hold in case of a move. But after seeing the Chicago Beer Society featured on a television show, Shaun knew what needed to be done to keep these beer tasting events alive. In Nov of 2006, the idea for the Pittsburgh Beer Society was presented to a few of the key people involved in the Fridays In Fall parties and everyone agreed we needed to continue. After a few very brief planning sessions we held our first official meeting in January 2007.

The P.B.S. has two main focuses - 1) To provide education to the fine folks of Pittsburgh on craft and imported beers available in PA. 2) To create the most amazing, fun, social group for beer enthusiasts in Western PA, then PA, then the East Coast, then all of the United States...we'll see where we end up after that.

There's a lot of things we'd like to do with our group. From brewery tours, guest brewmasters at our meetings, trips to other beer friendly places, and food/beer pairing dinners. Right now we're just trying to get it all organized and it's been a very daunting task to say the least. But it's happening.

We are always looking for people who are interested in being on our organizational board. While the idea for this group came from us, what happens with the group is all based on your ideas and input. So please feel free to drop us a line with suggestions, events, beers you'd like to try, anything - we're totally open to it.

::When and Where::

Our meetings (for now) will take place the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at D's Six Pack in Regent Square. Registration and a meet-and-greet from 7-8pm. Tastings are from 8-10ish.

::How much::

There are no annual dues; membership is open and free!
Each meeting is $10 for (6) 4oz samples.

::Why do you charge for tastings - other places do it for free::

For each meeting, we coordinate with D's an educational program of beverages for you to sample. D's in turn provides each of you with 4oz of our suggested beverages and collects $10 for the 6 samples. Simple.
